In a fresh wave of violence in Sudan, local media have reported that 36 civilians were killed in a brutal attack carried out by the Islamist-aligned “Al-Baraa bin Malik” militia and the so-called “Sudan Shield Forces” in the western region of the country.

According to the reports, these armed groups—allegedly affiliated with the Sudanese Armed Forces led by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan—launched a deadly assault on a village in the Darfur region, leaving dozens of civilians dead and many others injured.

The massacre comes amid intensifying armed conflict across Sudan, particularly in Darfur, where clashes have taken on deeply rooted ethnic and political dimensions. The situation is fueling fears of an escalating humanitarian crisis and the potential for further atrocities.

Sudan has long struggled with internal conflict, often marked by the involvement of paramilitary groups and shifting alliances. The current war, which erupted in April 2023 between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces, has already resulted in thousands of deaths and the displacement of millions.

Human rights organizations and international observers are calling for an independent investigation into the latest massacre, demanding accountability for those responsible and urgent action to protect civilians from ongoing violence.
