Port Sudan’s northern port received a shipment of medical aid from India today, carrying five tons of cancer and filariasis medications. This donation is part of India’s ongoing support for Sudan’s healthcare sector and follows a previous grant delivered in 2023 to aid cancer treatment efforts.

Support for Thousands of Patients
Sudan’s Minister of Health expressed gratitude to the Indian government for its continued humanitarian assistance, emphasizing that the shipment will help treat approximately 18,000 cancer patients in urgent need of medical care. He also called for sustained support to strengthen Sudan’s healthcare system and enhance bilateral cooperation in the medical sector.
A Long-Standing Strategic Partnership
Meanwhile, Sudan’s Minister of Culture and Information highlighted the strong and historic ties between Sudan and India, which date back to 1955. He praised the collaboration in healthcare and industry, particularly in knowledge exchange and the establishment of Sudanese pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities in India, which contribute to boosting local drug production.
India’s Ongoing Commitment
India’s chargé d’affaires in Sudan reaffirmed his country’s commitment to supporting Sudan, especially during its current challenges. He emphasized India’s dedication to strengthening bilateral cooperation across various sectors and expressed appreciation for the Sudanese authorities who facilitated the entry and distribution of the aid shipment.
