In a new escalation of violence amid Sudan’s ongoing conflict, a drone attack targeted a military camp belonging to the Sudan Shield Forces, resulting in the deaths of seven fighters and injuries to 14 others. The camp, located in Jabal Al-Abaytour in the central Al-Butana region, is led by Major General Abu Aqla Kikel and operates in alliance with the Sudanese Armed Forces.

In a brief statement posted on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the Sudan Shield Forces confirmed that “the camp was targeted by drone strikes that hit several of its facilities, resulting in the martyrdom of seven soldiers and the injury of 14 others.”
The use of drones in the Sudanese conflict has intensified in recent months, with both sides reportedly deploying unmanned aerial vehicles to strike strategic military positions. This attack underscores the growing sophistication and lethality of the conflict, as well as the widening battlefield that now includes air-based warfare.
The Al-Butana region, where the attack occurred, is considered strategically vital due to its central location connecting several states. Its significance has made it a focal point in the struggle between rival forces.
As drone warfare becomes more prominent in Sudan’s civil war, fears are mounting over increased casualties and further destabilization. With no clear path toward a political resolution, the country remains mired in a deepening humanitarian and security crisis.
